Congratulations to Jess Cook.
Chediston's Jess was honoured with a BEM in the Queen's Honours List in the New Year and invested yesterday by Lady Clare Euston on behalf of Her Majesty for her work with helping NF2 sufferers worldwide. This is great news for Chediston. See more details in today's EADT or on Stephen Burroughes twitter page @CllrStephenB
Jess was awarded the honour for setting up a global Community Interest Company 'CanUhearus' to help sufferers like her with NF2 (neurofibromitosis) and for starting 'Companions in Clinic' at Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge providing a buddy service for those freshly diagnosed. She also recently gave a talk to health chiefs in Washington USA about NF2.
NF2 is a degenerative condition which produces hundreds of benign tumours on the nervous system throughout the sufferers body. Jess has over 200 and is currently receiving radiotherapy at Addenbrookes for 2 serious brain tumours. Not a nice condition!
Well done indeed Jess!
