2017 Church Maintenance

Work is being carried out in accordance with an earlier quinquennial church inspection. This involves roof repairs (including the main roof above the entrance porch), and gutter cleaning etc. The vestry is being redecorated and has a substantially repaired window. Water staining towards the rear of the nave is being stain killed and redecorated and we hope to improve the poor palsterwork behind the altar. Externally the boundary walling will be made good in due course. (David Mantell)

August 2017 - The work to the church itself is virtually complete. Some boundary walling work is due to be started soon. The Lighting to the nave has been improved by replacing the old glass pendant fittings. It will be decided if high level LED lamps are necessary to augment the light levels at the pews.y wall work has been completed. (David Mantell)

October 2017 - The boundary wall work has been completed. (David Mantell)

2015 Church Maintenance

Recently you my have noticed that the decaying stonework to the entrance of the church has been replaced.

The flagpole should soon be reinstated following storm damage a while ago.

The lighting within the church is planned to be improved.

A feasibility study to extend the Schoolroom has been carried out and this will include disabled access and toilet facilities.

2012 Church Maintenance

Scaffold has been erected to allow access to carry out items of essential roof repairs. To date (July) inspections within the roof void have not indicated any major problems. Some repairs to stonework and general maintenance will also be carried out during the summer.

The Church Schoolroom is also being improved - general maintenance and redecorations.

General Update to August 2011

The heating improvements have been completed for a long while and are a success!

A quinquennial report has identified various repairs to the church and churchyard and these are presently out for tender. A similar exercise is being carried out in respect of the Schoolroom and adjoining storage sheds.

November 2010 Heating Improvements to the Church

The works are almost complete save for the installation of one heater to the ringing chamber. The new heaters have made a significant difference to the comfort of those attending the church.

Sally Aldous writes:

Those of you who have been to Church recently will have noticed how lovely and cosy the church now feels. This is largely due to the hard work of David Mantell to whom we are very indebted. He has given so much of his time dealing with the installation for us.

October 2010 Heating Improvements to the Church

Having obtained a Faculty from the DAC, the proposed heating improvement works to the Church have commenced and should be completed this month. These include new, rapid response heaters to replace those older wall mounted heaters and some under-pew heaters in the choir stalls. Wiring and electrical equipment will also be rationalised.

July/August 2010 Sound Reduction Work to Church Bell Tower

I have now obtained a formal Faculty from the DAC for the proposed sound baffling work. I have sent an order to the contractor requesting that he commences as soon as possible. I await his start and completion dates.

Update - Work is substantially complete. Sound readings have been taken and thesse show a remarkable reduction - From the West window overlooking the Watts house reading is 66 dB (down from 80 dB) and from the North window overlooking the Parsons house reading is 60 dB.

Update 09/09/10 - I have now signed off the works and issued a Completion Certificate to the DAC. The specialist reported the following to the PCC:

'I am pleased to report that this stage of your external sound control project is complete and operational. Both Mr and Mrs Downing have been shown how to operate the system.

The table below shows the before and after sound readings.

You will see there is a difference between the readings taken before any work was done and now, with the sound doors open. This is due to the designed-in additional sound shadow so that those in the immediate vicinity and those coming to Church do not find the volume so disturbing. Further away there should be little discernable reduction in sound'

The reduction in sound output is impressive.
